Art Book Magazine
Alternating reproductions of works and photographs of the artist at work in his Berlin studio, this monograph has a sober, careful structure. DAG works on frames, templates and graphic systems, by hand, going along ruled lines fanatically and obsessively. His references are Op Art and geometrical abstraction, but without nostalgia, for his culture of graffiti and urban art pushes his work out into a strange, fascinating contemporaneousness. The machine malfunctions; errors, flaws, and flickers come to the surface. The material and the colors disturb the codes that regulate digital art. DAG is one of those artists who simultaneously occupy several territories, and whose creation of their own plastic language is necessary for their participation in a world that really loves to attach labels and reduce each artist to a style or current.
Pascal Béjean took advantage of a visit to the studio to photograph the artist and suggest making this catalogue to report on his demanding, resilient work.
