Art Book Magazine enables franckDavid to complete the monograph book project he began twelve years ago, compiling notebooks alongside his exhibitions and projects. This edition will therefore be updated to keep up with his ongoing work. This unique procedure illustrates the way the artist works, taking an interest in everything that surrounds a work of art: editing, communication, design... Unlike many other artists who work to conceal or rewrite their own history, Franck David has decided to incorporate this process of superposition and evolution in his practice. Replacing or reacting (to the work of art) are out of the question: the aim is rather to write a story, a scenario for this long journey dealing head-on with the artist’s own time as well as the time of the art world he belongs to. Times that speed up, tighten up and stretch - sometimes synchronizing or getting out of step.
This catalogue follows franckDavid, but also emphasizes the evolution of editing tools and styles, and the ways artists, over the last decade, have started taking them into their own hands more and more. We are very happy to present you with this original edition, a singularly relevant opus, germane to the artistic approaches we want to uphold and to our editorial mission.
