To our greatest joy, Florence Lebert opens our new collection of photography books. We have known Florence for a while, and have eagerly followed her travels as well as her work. In this book she presents 4 series of photographs, pulled from reports on several ex-Soviet republics she worked on with Bérénice Debras. The common thread centers on broken (hi)stories: private, political, social, geographical, domestic. The camera captures gazes as well as situations, both giving the impression that they belong to another world already. Despite that, genuine emotion, real tenderness filter through them: small details from life like this gesture, that color, some everyday object... Time seems frozen, but maybe it’s Lebert’s own time, this strange time that through her artist’s choices thrusts us into her vision of a abandoned world - not only the world of these ex-republics but also the very world about to happen upon us.
